“Process of Disappearance”- May 8, 2019 ©Konstantin Mindadze / commissioned by National Geographic, as a permanent installation at the courtyard of National Museum of Georgia. Silkscreen printed plastic bag, bulletproof glass and stainless steel frame construction / Visible dimension of composition overall: 60x50x5cm (as awareness on the theme of plastic). This printed polyethylene bag placed inside a transparent ‘time capsule’ represents visible decay to its complete vanishing as a transient conceptual artifact as awareness. Polyethylene is poisonous plastic material often used in the commercial industry. Its decomposition usually takes 10 to 1000 years depending on its thickness. Its frequent consumption leads to environmental catastrophe and should be banned and replaced with biodegradable material. In 2018 National Geographic launched an international campaign “Planet or Plastic,” in more than 20 countries, aiming to reduce the amount of single-use plastics that end up in the ocean.
